For Couples at an Impasse

My practice supports therapists and their clients through focused services designed for couples at a crossroads.

Couples Intensives

A multi-hour emotionally focused session designed to help couples get unstuck, gain traction, and move forward in their work — whether that’s back in your office or in a new direction. Nearly all couples who benefit from this service require deep emotional repair work. With more time, couples can unpack layered dynamics and move at a pace that promotes emotional safety and change.

Format

  • First Hour Virtual Session: I will set up a time to meet with the couple for an initial intake so that I can prepare for an intensive experience tailored to their needs and presenting concerns.

  • Six-Hour Intensive: A six-hour intensive provides the opportunity for Emotionally Focused Therapy interventions aimed at deep repair work.

Coordination

It will be important for me to work with you as the couple’s primary care therapist both before and after the intensive. Your insights and desired outcomes will be extremely helpful in providing clients with continuity in their support. We can set up a time by phone or teleconference. I will require that clients sign a release before our time together.

Discernment Counseling

Discernment Counseling is for married couples experiencing ambivalence about the future of their relationship. Divorce is on the table and the couple is presenting as a “mixed agenda”: one spouse is leaning out and the other is leaning in.

It is a highly structured, time-limited process (1-5 sessions). I help couples explore all three paths (status quo, separation/divorce, or a 6-month commitment to couples work) with clarity and care.

🧭 Discernment Counseling is for:

  • Couples where one or both partners are unsure if they want to stay together

  • Partners considering divorce but open to reflection before deciding

  • Couples stuck in a “should we stay or go?” loop

  • Clients who want clarity, not pressure, about the future of the relationship

🚫 Discernment Counseling is NOT for:

  • Couples where both partners have already decided to separate

  • Situations involving domestic violence or coercion

  • Relationships where one partner refuses to attend sessions

  • Couples looking to immediately begin reconciliation work

Pricing

Pricing is offered at my regular hourly rate. I do not charge a premium for Intensives or Discernment Counseling.
